Elliott Sadler Holds On For The Win At Chicago
For only a few times this year the Nationwide Series drivers get to be big stars as they took to the track in Chicago for 300 miles.
The race started with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Sam Hornish Jr. getting to lead laps. Ricky though was able win the race lead at lap seven and keep it. Ricky started to putt out a two second lead over the field and then at lap 47 it was the start of green flag pit stops.
Kyle Busch wound up with a penalty exiting too fast from pit road on his pit stop. Then at lap 52 it was finally caution time as Jamie Dick wound up with a stalled car on the race track. The caution brought down the cars that did not pit yet.
After the race restarted Sam Hornish Jr. got a whole lot more time as the leader of the race. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. though started to get hot and was able to make a charge for the lead of the race. At lap 76 he finally was able to get the lead back.
The green flag racing continued and in thirty more laps the second round of green flag pit stops started after Rickey created a massive lead over the second place car. Michael Annett got a chance to lead the race a couple of laps before he pitted. After all the cars pitted the caution finally came out on lap 111 for debris.
This green flag run only wound up being a short one and at lap 128 Brad Sweet spins out to bring out the next caution. The caution though brought in most of the cars on the lead lap, but five cars did stay out.
After the green flag dropped again Ricky Stenhouse Jr. got to lead more laps. With 36 laps left cars that did not pit under the last caution period came down pit road. This put Elliott Sadler into the lead of the race. The caution though pooped out again with 33 laps left for Brad Sweet that spun out again.
The brought in the rest of the cars on the lead lap with Elliott Sadler winning the race off pit road. As the race restarted Elliott Sadler was leading laps as Ricky Stenhouse Jr. quickly moved up to sixth place. With 21 laps left he was up to fourth. One lap later he was third. Four more laps go by and he got second place. With nine laps left the lead fell to under one second.
With eight laps left the caution came out as Sam Hornish Jr. hits Kyle Busch and then Kyle takes out Brendan Gaughan. The green-white-checker came out came out and Just Allgaier was able to push Elliott Sadler into the race lead with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. getting third place.
"We needed this win," said Elliott Sadler. "We knew we had a good car on the long run."
"Great day for out Brandt Chevy," said Justin Allgaier.
"We had the car to beat," said Ricky Stenhouse Jr. on the race.
"It was really loose," said Kenny Wallace on his car.
