Sports Illustrated Kids Big Book of Why Book Review
I was able to get a free copy of this book to review and I found it to be a good read for the age demographic they are going for. This book is fully loaded with info.
The book is only 128 page long, but is jammed packed with over 500+ plus facts of sports knowledge. The book includes a whole wide range of sports with baseball and football taking up most of the book. NASCAR is included but it is only on three pages.
The book is boat loaded with photos which goes great with all the questions that are answered in the book. I also like that they have included four multiple choice exams in the book. They made it great for learning.
A few of the numerous questions that get answered include:
Why is a football sometimes called a pigskin?
Why is the number 42 retired in every major league ballpark?
Why is a standard marathon exactly 26.2 miles?
Why is the San Francisco Giants' mascot a seal?
Why do college basketball uniforms only have numerals between 0 and 5?
The only downside I saw in the book was the index in the back of the book could have been bigger. Not every event got listed and one extra page would have fixed it.
If you are a parent of a kid that loves sports this would certainly be a nice book to have. Even the parents can learn something new from this book.
