Birthday Boy Kenseth Goes To Victory Lane At Las Vegas

Matt Kenseth Las Vegas 2013.jpgFor the first time this season the Sprint Cup drivers did not get to qualify cars at all leaving Brad Keselowski on the poll as they used 2012 owners points to set the field.

Jimmie Johnson stated that he is still trying to sort out the Gen 6 car. "Fast paced race," said Tony Stewart.

The race started off with a long green flag run. Brad Keselowski started off leading the race as Kasey Kahne started to get hot. Around lap 11 it was Kasey Kahne in the race lead and started to put a big lead on the field.

The green flag racing continued going at a fast pace and the first round of green flag pit stop started at lap 38. After the pit stops were over it was Kasey Kahne back in the race lead. He first caution finally came out on lap 64 debris.

The leaders pitted and Kasey Kahne was able to keep the race lead. After the green flag dropped we got an even longer green flag run. Kasey started leading laps as Jimmie Johnson started to get hot. Jimmie was able to get the race lead on lap 75. Jimmie Johnson then started to pull a big led on the field. As the green flag racing continued with Jimmie in the race lead it got to green flag pit stops around lap 115.

After the green flag pit stops ended Jimmie Johnson was back in the race lead. Kasey Kahne though started to get hot and was finally able to the race lead at lap 137. The green flag racing was still going at a fast clip and at lap 160 Marcos Ambrose slides on the race track in an attempt to make pit road to bring out the caution. The leaders pitted and Jimmie Johnson was able to win the race off pit road.

The race restarts and Kyle Busch with a bold move makes it three wide for the race lead and was able to make it work for the race lead. Kyle Busch then started to stretch his lead on the field. With 87 laps left though Kyle Busch wobbles and that caused Kasey Kahne to get the lead of the race back.

The green flag racing ended with 73 laps left as Bobby Labonte spins out. The caution brought in the leaders with cars up front taking only two tires while the cars in the back of the lead lap took four. Denny Hamlin though stayed out to take the race lead.
After the green flag dropped Kasey Kahne easily took the race lead, but Kyle Busch was so much faster he was able to get the race lead at the end of the lap. Kasey Kahne then started to get really hot and with 59 laps left he got the lead back. With 44 laps left Travis Kvapil smokes big time to bring out the next caution.

The caution brought in the leaders with some cars just raking fuel to put Matt Kenseth into the race lead. With 37 laps left the race restarted and Matt Kenseth was able to keep the race lead. Then in a few laps Ryan Newman and his car went bad to bring out the caution with 32 laps left. The leaders aty out this time with only a few cars coming down pit road for service.

Matt Kenseth started out leading laps again as the green flag dropped while Kasey Kahne quickly moved into second place. Kahne then started to get hot and with 14 laps left was right behind Matt for the race lead. With six laps left Kasey made a move for the lead did not work. Kasey got up close one more time, but could not do anything and Matt Kenseth wins the race. His win marks only the third driver to win on his birthday.

"Man this is awesome," said Matt Kenseth.

"I had a great day," said Kasey Kahne. He also stated that he had the car to beat.

"All in all a great day," said Kyle Busch. "A little more long run speed."

Brad Keselwoski stated that if he beat the 20(Matt Kenseth) off pit road that he might have had something for him.
