Matt Kenseth 2013 Kansas.jpgMatt Kenseth set a new track record as he took the poll in qualifying for the STP 400. It was another great day for racing with loads of action and cautions.

Clint Bowyer stated he was expecting some carnage based on what occurred in the truck series race.

Matt Kenseth started the race out leading laps and then at lap five it was early caution time for Kyle Busch that spun out. The caution brought down a couple cars including Brad Keselwoski that had a lengthy spot. After the green flag dropped again Brad and his car was still not healthy and Matt Kenseth wound up putting him a lap down. The green flag racing finally came to a stop on lap 37 as Dave Blaney and his car smacked the wall after cutting a tire. The caution brought in the leaders and Matt Kenseth kept the race lead as a load of cars took on only two tires.

Another good green flag run occurred this time with Matt Kenseth leading more and more laps. The racing though came to a stop on lap 72 for debris. The caution brought in the leaders with Matt Kenseth winning the race off pit road again. Both Sam Hornish Jr. and Martin Truex Jr. got a tire violation on pit road.

At lap 80 Mark Martin almost caused a caution as Greg Biffle tapped him sending him to the back in a hurry. The short green flag run came to an end on lap 87 as Elliott Sadler smacked the wall. This caution did not bring in the cars up front, but this caution helped Brad Keselowski stay on the lead lap. This time we had another short green flag run and at lap 103 it went from bad to worse for Kyle Busch wrecked his car. Then he wound up smacking into Joey Logano real bad in the front.
Kyle Busch stated that his car just snapped out one me.

Joey Logano stated that he thought that Kyle Busch was going to go across the race track.

After pit road was finally open the leaders pitted and Matt Kenseth was still able win the race off pit road. A couple of cars did not pit this time leaving Martin Truex Jr. in the lead of the race. At the drop of the green flag Mark Martin almost causes a mega wreck as he touched Jamie McMurray. Jamie though saved his car and fell to the back very quickly. As the green flag racing continued it was green flag pit stop time for the few cars that did not stop on the least caution.

At lap 157 it was the start of pit stops for the rest of the cars in the race. At lap 162 it was tire trouble time for Juan Pablo Montoya who just had his pit stop. After they finally ended Martin Truex Jr. was back into the race lead with Brad Keselowski in second. At lap 174 it was finally caution time as Brian Vickers spins out.

This caution brought in the leaders where some took only fuel while other cars took on two fresh tires. Jimmie Johnson was able to win the race off pit road. Carl Edwards and a bunch of other cars stayed out. After the green flag dropped all we got a short green flag run and with 86 laps left Marcos Ambrose gets loose and helps take out Sam Hornish Jr. and Casey Mears.
"Just nowhere to go," said Sam Hornish Jr.

With 77 laps left both Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Matt Kenseth ttok it three wide for the race lead with Ricky winning the lead spot. With 74 laps to Danica picked up a tire rub and with 70 laps left Brad Keselowski had some very visible rear end damage.

With 56 laps left the green flag pit stops started for cars that stayed out earlier in the race. A few more laps go by and the caution finally comes out as a rear panel flew off the Brad Keselowski car. This save Ricky Stenhouse Jr. big time as he was the first car one laps down. Matt Kenseth was the leader of the race at the time of the caution. The leaders pit and Matt Kenseth kept the lead of the race.

The race restarted again with 43 laps left and Matt Kenseth leading laps. Then as the laps quickly went down Kasey Kahne got hot and started to chase Matt down. With 10 laps left he was right behind him for the race lead. Then Matt started to pull away from Kasey for a few laps. With under five laps left the lead shrank back down again, but Kasey could not pull off the win at all.

The win by Matt marks the first time since 1985 that three races in a row were won by a car sitting on the poll

"This is a dream come true," said Matt Kenseth on driving this car. He also stated that he thought he was going to lose to the race.

"Matt was fast," said Kasey Kahne.

"Good inspiration for this weekend," said Brad Kelselowski on his sixth place finish.

"Had a great race car today," said Jimmie Johnson.

"Super excited about a fourth place run, said Martin Truex Jr.
