Final torchbearer: If not The Great One, then who -- or what?

Winter Olympics Furlong.jpgThe intrigue continues: Who will light the cauldron tonight? John Furlong, Vancouver Organizing Committee chief, is taunting those trying to guess.

One person it's not: hockey great Wayne Gretzky.

Michael J. Fox?

Cindy Klassen, the Olympic medalist in Summer AND Winter Games (cycling, speedskating)?

Nancy Greene, 1968 gold and silver Olympic alpine medalist? Betty Fox, mom of national hero Terry Fox, who lost his leg to cancer, but before his 1981 death attempted a fundraising run across Canada?

Rick Hansen, wheelchair marathoner?

No. No. No. No. And no.

Furlong is enjoying this. Just wait until tonight, he says.

"You can think about this as long as you'd like and you can think about the last moments of the ceremonies as long as you'd like and you're not going to figure it out," he told reporters.

That means it's going to be someone, or something, completely unexpected. Brilliant, or a complete bomb? Stay tuned.
