Don't look now but the Hawks have won 6 in a row!

--A win last night resulted in a sweep of the Round Rock Express and the RedHawks 6th win in a row.  Hitting is still pretty much MIA, but the pitching has really stepped it up as of late, resulting in a lot of 2-1 or 3-2 wins.

--Jeff called me with some interesting news this morning.  Per the PCL transactions the RedHawks have released Esteban German and he no longer is on the online roster.  I don't see the Rangers releasing him, so we are speculating that he either had an out clause in his contract (which I don't remember) or MiLB goofed and removed Esteban instead of German Duran who was released yesterday (we are hoping the latter!) although he will not officially be placed on waivers until tomorrow.

--Speaking of German, the Rangers released him yesterday when they optioned Brandon Boggs to OKC and activated Willie Eyre off the 60-day DL.  According to the FWST, German, who will become a free agent if he clears waivers, has agreed to sign a minor league contract with the Rangers if he clears.  Chances are good that German will clear since he is currently on the Hawks DL after having an appendectomy (when the heck did THAT happen?!?) and would have to be placed on another team's major league DL (and collect ML salary) if he clears waivers.

--The same FWST article quotes Ron Washington as saying that the Rangers will call up another bench player after this weekend.  Assuming that no one lands on the DL, Brandon will not be eligible to be recalled for 10 days which means that Greg Golson is the likely call up, although Julio Borbon, Joaquin Arias and Jose Vallejo are also on the 40-man roster and thus call up possibilities.  The Rangers have a full 40-man roster so I don't see them calling up anyone not on the 40-man.  A 25-man spot will have to be made for whichever player is called up after the weekend and Washington indicates that it will be a pitcher.  I suspect that Doug Mathis is the likely victim.

--If Esteban is still on the Hawks roster, a roster spot will need to be cleared for Brandon.  My initial thought was Steve Murphy but since that will leave the Hawks with only 2 OFs if Greg does go up to Texas, I now suspect that a pitcher will land on the "DL".

--Beau Vaughan is at it again, this time interviewing Frisco uber-prospect Justin Smoak.

--Ex-Hawk Jamie Burke was DFA'd by the Mariners yet again.

--A couple good reads are Bob Hersom's profiles on personal favorite Joaquin Arias and RedHawks broadcaster Jim Byers.
