Davis up and other Rangers MiLB Notes...

--The Rangers officially recalled Chris Davis from the RedHawks today.  I think most of us saw this coming and I even told him Friday night that he was playing in his last RedHawks home game.  Ironically, that makes me 3 for 3 on his promotions.  He was called up to OKC from Frisco and from OKC to Texas within 2 days of my telling him he was going up last year, and it happened again this year (he wasn't officially called up until today but was told he was going up on Sunday so that is within 2 days).  He better stay on my good side or I may have to start predicting he being optioned back down (just kidding Chris!) LOL

--The Rangers signed Travis Metcalf who had been released by the Royals and he made his 2009 RedHawks debut by belting 2 HRs against his former team the Omaha Royals.  He'll man 3B with Justin Smoak at 1B.  As was mentioned in the comments, Justin, Luis Mendoza and Kasey Kiker are playing in the world cup and I believe they are expected to miss the end of the season as a result.  I'm assuming Royce Huffman will return to 1B when Justin leaves.  That, along with call ups will clear some room on our roster so I except to see some new blood for the last 5-6 days of the season.  I'm still hoping for personal favorite Brennan Garr though Jeff said he heard that we are getting someone from Bakersfield.  If its a position player (which we need) from Bakersfield, I am guessing Ian Gac.

--In an interview Bryan Corey talks about his season and his changes for playing next year.  I personally have been quite vocal about my unhappiness of his performance at the beginning of the season, but it is still sad.  One of my favorite ex-RedHawks recently said the same thing, basically saying he played in a different league this year because the offers he received last off season were a joke.

--Wow, I so totally want to go to the AZL this year.  Looks like a good contingent headed by personal favorites Brennan Garr, Mitch Moreland, Marcus Lemon and Thomas Diamond.  Other participates are Doug Hogan and a TBD pitcher.

--Speaking of Marcus, I found another thing to like about him...the kid knows how to lay down a bunt!  I was at a Frisco game this weekend and saw him lay down the perfect squeeze bunt in the 8th during the Riders comeback rally.  It was a thing of beauty.  If he cuts down on the errors he really would be the perfect 2010 favorite RedHawk.

--In addition to the regular Frisco group, it was good to see personal favorite Jonathan Greene who was just up from Bakersfield.  Jonathan is the last of the group of 5 players who I met last year while they were with Clinton who I really liked.  For a RedHawks point of reference, think G. Tom Evans on defense (and those of you who know me know what a compliment that is) whose uniform is dirty by the 2nd inning.  Also keep in mind that he is the player on the team who Jason told me I had to meet.  Bodes well for future favorite RedHawk status...if he makes it to AAA before the end of the 2010 season at least! LOL

--Can't remember if I mentioned this or not, but the Cubbies sent my buddy Micah Hoffpauir down to Iowa.  I don't know how Micah had an option remaining, but apparently he did.  Of course, this would be the year that Iowa doesn't come to town the end of August...instead we play in Iowa.  I'm debating a trip up for part of the series as a birthday present to myself (I'll spin it any way I can! LOL) so don't be surprised to see an update live from Iowa...still not sure though since I just did a 3 day trip this weekend.

--Speaking of my favorite PCLers, how ironic is it that the Rockies activated Paul Phillips from the restricted list on the 22nd, one day after the Sky Sox leave town.

--Wow, a name (and pairing) from the past.  Tike Redman was signed to a contract and assigned to the Nashville Sounds.

--A statement I never thought I would utter (the first part of it at least) and hopefully never will again after this week...Go Yankees!  Beat some Ranger butt!
