Welcome to our new home! Thanks for following me over from MVN and I hope we all have a great 2010 season!
Good news from Camp Rangers today. The Rangers signed personal favorite Colby Lewis to a major league contract and he will compete with Derek Holland, Matt Harrison, Tommy Hunter and Brandon McCarthy for a spot in the rotation. A spot will have to be cleared for Colby on the 40-man with Joaquin Arias, Luis Mendoza and Joe Inglett the most likely victims. Another spot will also have to be cleared for Khalil Greene.
The Rangers have named their Minor League Players of the year. Personal favorite Mitch Moreland was the player of the year, Martin Perez was the pitcher of the year and Craig Gentry was the defender of the year.
My posts for December were all deleted in December, so forgive the repeat. Esteban German and Clay Repada cleared waivers and were outrighted to OKC. The Rangers also signed Geoff Geary, Matt Brown and Ray Olmedo to minor league deals.
The Rangers and Dustin Nippert signed an agreement today, avoiding arbitration.
Some other signings of my favorite players include Jason Botts with the White Sox, Kam Loe with the Brewers, Jason Stokes and Sam Narron with the Twins, Brad Nelson resigned with the Mariners, RA Dickey with the Mets, and Eric Bruntlett with the Nationals. Brian Shouse signed with the Red Sox.
Personal favorite Clint Barmes avoided arbitration by signing a 1 year deal with the Rockies. I know I have said it before, but good for Clint who has to be the nicest guy in professional sports.
Tonight was the Rangers Caravan at the Brick. Attendees were Chris Davis, Craig Gentry and Bobby Jones. The new minor league player development guy was also there. They had the usual Q&A session. They had no comment on the Rangers leaving OKC after this season to head to Round (though we all know it is going to happen). Also no predictions on who will be on our roster though it sounds like Kasey Kiker is likely to be on our opening roster. Best part of the night was seeing Bobby Jones again though!
