Last Season: Mike D’Antoni inherited a roster that didn’t quite fit his style of play. But he did the best with what he had and the Knicks weren’t half bad. They were actually in the playoff hunt until they absolutely fell apart at the end of the season. They lost 26 of their last 37 games and finished at 32-50, last in their division.

Most Interesting Man in the World: Superman is boring; it’s his arch-nemesis, Lex Luthor, who is the interesting one. Well, in the NBA it’s the man who brought down Superman, Krypto-Nate. Nate Robinson is just 5’9 and that’s what makes him so exciting to watch. He’s a liability on defense but the kid averaged over 17 points last season and he BLOCKED 7’7 YAO MING! I know I’m mixing up my superheroes here but…‘nuff said.
Over the Hill: Larry Hughes – Alright, so he hasn’t been good in awhile but he has to be mentioned since he’s getting paid over $13 million this year. Hughes' numbers have been declining since 2005 and a once tenacious defender is, at best, just average now. His contract is up at the end of this year, and so too will be his short tenure with the Knicks.
Ready to Break Out: Danilo Gallinari – I’m extremely skeptical of this but I’m taking D’Antoni’s word. Apparently, Gallinari has been very impressive in camp and his style should mesh well with D’Antoni’s.
Outlook: More than any other team, the Knicks are just gearing up for next year’s free agency bonanza. But don’t think that means they’re not going to play hard. What free agents would want to come to a truly awful team? The Knicks have to show they have a few very solid building blocks to form around a superstar (or two). D’Antoni will push the tempo even more than last year and that will at least keep the Knicks exciting. David Lee and Nate Robinson both signed one-year deals, so they are both playing for free agency money. The Knicks will be looking to see which pieces are worth keeping but most likely will look completely different next season, and Knicks fans couldn’t be happier about that.
