Last Season: The Kings had the worst record in the league last year. On top of having the least talented roster in the league, they also dealt with an array of injuries.

Acquisitions: G Tyreke Evans, F Omri Casspi, F Sean May, F Jon Brockman, G Sergio Rodriguez

Departures: F Ike Diogu, F Cedric Simmons

Starting Five: F Jason Thompson, F Andres Nocioni, C Spencer Hawes, G Kevin Martin, G Beno Udrih

Bench Mob: Sergio Rodriguez, Francisco Garcia, Desmond Mason, Donte Greene, Jon Brockman, Sean May, Omri Casspi, Kenny Thomas

Most Interesting Man in the World: Omri Casspi – Casspi became the first Israeli player to be drafted in the first round and if he stays healthy he will be the first to play in the NBA. This year thousands of Israeli’s will be getting up at four in the morning to watch Casspi play. The entire nation will be watching his progress…but no pressure!

Over the Hill: Kenny Thomas – He’s played in just 31 games the past two seasons and it’s unclear if he will even make the team. If the Kings do dump him it will be a costly buyout with Thomas schedule to make just under $9 million this year.

Ready to Break Out: Francisco Garcia – As the season went on last year Garcia got more and more playing time. He was on fire from three-point range last season and also led the team in steals. He is a much better fit than Nocioni for head coach Paul Westphal’s quick tempo offense.

Outlook: The Kings are a young team (and yes, that’s a euphemism for ‘not very good’). They lack depth at every position and still have many question marks. Can Beno Udrih run the point? If not, will Tyreke Evans be forced to play out of position and handle more than he should? Can Kevin Martin stay healthy and be the go-to scorer they need him to be? They are solid up front with Jason Thompson, Spencer Hawes, and either Nocioni or Garcia but their bench is very suspect. The Kings will be one of the worst teams in the league but as long as they improve throughout the season it will be viewed as a success.
