The protest zones set aside – far aside -- for preapproved political demonstrations in Beijing have gone unused. This is unsurprising, since those who sought to use them found themselves arrested, according to the New York Times. So much for the idea that staging the Games would lead to more openness in China. The notion that the Olympics are a “movement” is delusional at best, cynical self-justification at worst.
