10. Ron Powlus
Ron Powlus was a Notre Dame legend before he even arrived. The Pennsylvanian was the Parade Magazine prep player of the year and the USA Today offensive prep player of the year in 1992. After signing with the Irish, ESPN college football analyst Beano Cook predicted that Powlus would win the Heisman Trophy - twice. Pretty high praise, considering it's only been done once before, by Archie Griffin.
Turns out Powlus didn't win the Heisman twice, or once, or even come close in voting. Powlus had a respectable career at Notre Dame, setting a number of school records, but never achieved the kind of success that was expected from him. In his time as the starting QB in South Bend, the school never won a bowl game and Powlus never showed the skill set of an NFL QB. Powlus went undrafted and tried to break into the NFL, but never took a regular season snap.
