There are very few lacrosse players sports fans know by name, but perhaps the two most famous (besides Jim Brown) were Paul and Gary Gait. The twins led Syracuse to three straight NCAA titles from 1988-1990 … or at least that's what Syracuse claims. The NCAA though, vacated the third title in 1990 after it was revealed Nancy Simmons, the wife of Coach Roy Simmons Jr., co-signed on a car loan for Paul Gait. It was considered a secondary offense, but the NCAA came down hard on the Orangemen and stripped them of their title.

That 1990 squad is widely considered the best college lacrosse team of all-time. Syracuse finished the season a perfect 13-0 while setting records for most goals per game (20.85) and highest scoring margin (+11.31). In the 1990 NCAA tournament the Orangemen outscored their opponents by a combined 62-31, including a 21-9 rout of Loyola (Md.) in the title game.
