How does a 15-4 defeat turn into a 6-0 victory? When the winning team is ruled ineligible for multiple violations. During the 1992 Little League World Series, Zamboanga City of the Philippines first ousted six-time defending Asia champion Taiwan in regional play, then easily handled Santo Domingo in the semifinals, 5-1, before trouncing Long Beach, Calif., 15-4 in the championship game. But shortly after winning the title, question began to arise about the team’s eligibility.

Armando Andaya, the district administrator of Zamboanga City, denied the allegations and blamed the United States of being poor sports. As the evidence mounted though, Andaya confessed that the team used eight players not located in the district. It would later emerge that six other players were over the age limit.

Zamboanga City would become the first Little League team to be stripped of the championship, which was controversially awarded to Long Beach instead of being vacated. Long Beach, led both years by future major leaguer Sean Burroughs, did return to win it on the field the following year to "repeat" as champions.
