“Does anybody else believe that the (Matt) Barkley-led, game-winning, 86-yard comeback touchdown drive in the final 7:15 of Saturday night's 18-15 win over eighth-ranked Ohio State at Ohio Stadium could be the start of something not only big, but historic?”

That was from Bill Plaschke’s column in the Los Angeles Times following the Trojans' victory, led by true freshman QB Matt Barkley, over the Buckeyes. This is a team that in recent memory has been led by quarterbacks Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart and Mark Sanchez. A team so good that Matt Cassel barely played at all and this past offseason Cassel signed a 6-year, $63 million contract with the Chiefs. USC has had its share of amazing quarterbacks but Barkley is the first true freshman to start in the program's history.

We’re only two games into the season and Barkley will have to continue to prove himself. But right now he's the star freshman QB at Southern California. It’s good to be Matt Barkley.

Barkley still has a ways to go before his freshman season is considered historic. From a true freshman starting at linebacker for Ohio State to another Buckeye who peaked early to this year’s top fantasy pick – here are the Top 10 Seasons by Freshmen in College Football.

*The list is comprised of only true freshman and not those that redshirted. The list is heavy on running backs but this is usually where freshmen can flourish.
