9. Jamelle Holieway
The 1985 Oklahoma Sooners were supposed to be Troy Aikman's team, but Aikman broke his ankle in the fourth game of the season against Miami. Enter freshman Jamelle Holieway. The Sooners would go on to lose the game against the Hurricanes, but Holieway meshed perfectly with coach Barry Switzer's wishbone option offense.
The freshman led the Sooners to an 8-0 record over the rest of the season and a national championship following a 25-10 victory over Penn State in the Orange Bowl. Holieway remains the only true freshman quarterback to lead his team to a national championship.
