Virginia Tech is in the Sugar Bowl ... yeah, that makes perfect sense.

If you're scratching your head over this one - or if you're a Boise State or Kansas State fan, infuriated by it - here's a gentle reminder: The bowl games, whether they're of the BCS variety or not, are just exhibition games. They're staged so the hosting party can make a million bucks or two. They're not any different from an NFL preseason game, or a Harlem Globetrotter performance. It's a show.

The Sugar Bowl grabbed Virginia Tech to face Michigan because the Hokies are a proven draw. They will bring the fannies to fill the seats and hotel rooms in the Big Easy. Without an SEC team to choose from and with the locals expected to spend their money on the BCS title game at the same location a week later, the Sugar Bowl needed two teams that can sell out the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Besides, when it comes to the most egregious bowl selections, this one really isn't even quiet up there with the all-time snubs. And let's not completely let Michigan off the hook, either - the Wolverines are actually ranked lower than the Hokies in the BCS Standings as well as all the polls.

Michigan and Virginia Tech are maybe getting back a little return on karma, after suffering their own indignant bowl snubs in the years past. Leaving aside the BCS championship matchups (since they were really determined by a formula, not by choice of a particular bowl), these are our Top 10 Controversial Bowl Selections:
