The Big Red Machine of the 1970s was certainly one of the great dynasties in the National League. From 1970-76, Sparky Anderson's Cincinnati Reds won five NL West titles, four NL pennants and two World Series. The last of their postseason run was certainly the most dominant.
After surviving Carlton Fisk's dramatic Game 6 homer to win the 1975 World Series, the Reds began their quest to become the first NL club to repeat as world champions since the 1921-22 New York Giants. They won 102 regular-season games and took the NL West by 10 games over the Dodgers.
Once in the postseason, the Reds were invincible, becoming the first - and so far, only - team to go through the postseason without a loss since the divisional round was added in 1969. They swept the Phillies in three games in the NLCS and then the Yankees in four games in the World Series. The only game they came close to losing was Game 3 of the NLCS when they rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth to win 7-6.
In the seven postseason games, the Reds outscored their opponents, 41-19. Joe Morgan was named the NL MVP for a second consecutive season while Johnny Bench was named the World Series MVP.
