Top 10 Erroneous Columns of 2009
The NFL playoffs begin this week and any time anything major happens in sports, columnists can’t help but take out their crystal ball and try and predict the results. Sunday, following the end of the regular season, Pete Prisco of CBS Sports wrote:
In recent years, the Cowboys have put snowmen on their golf cards for the final holes, which, for those of the golfing impaired, isn't a good thing. They've yanked drives. They've four-putted greens. To be blunt, they've choked.
This Cowboys team won't do that.
This Cowboys team is the best in the NFC right now. …
The Cowboys will play in the Super Bowl.
It’s a bold claim but that’s what columnists do. Sometimes they’re right, sometimes they’re hilariously wrong. Last year we began our annual list of the Top 10 Erroneous Columns of the Year and we continue with our 2009 edition.
The Vikings would be better off without Favre? The Red Sox are going to win the World Series? This past Super Bowl was going to be one of the most boring ever? Sorry, it’s time we call out journalists for their bold predictions that were way off base.
