The Boston Globe has a slideshow of “Manny’s moments.” It is 43 slides long.
Before his time with the Red Sox, before “Manny Being Manny” became as commonplace as his two-hit games, Ramirez was in Cleveland, where he often forgot pitch counts and lost track of outs. And there was the time that a clubhouse attendant found “some money” while cleaning out Manny’s car – it was $40,000 in cash. "Manny is a little kid," said Pedro Martinez. "He's off in his own little world. He's in la-la-land."
In Boston, seemingly every month brought with it a new incident of “Manny Being Manny,” but perhaps none sums up his career better than what happened in 2005. While pitching coach Dave Wallace went to mound to visit Wade Miller in the top of the 6th inning, Manny decided that standing around waiting in his leftfield position was silly. He disappeared into the Green Monster wall, and barely made it back to the field in time before the next pitch. Apparently, he had to go to the bathroom.
Manny eventually took that “la-la-land” to the La-La-Land, where during his introductory press conference, he joked with the media, commenting that had he been traded to Green Bay for Brett Favre (as he had previously joked), he would have been the backup. And then there was the time he served as a translator for teammate Angel Berroa, showing that pranks exist in all languages.
This off-season, just for fun, Manny tried his hand at cricket, because, hey, why not?
