MJ's Legend Is Born
It’s difficult to pinpoint the exact moment an athlete goes from being a superstar to a legend, but for Michael Jordan, there’s a case to be made that it happened on May 7, 1989.
The Bulls trailed by a point with 3 seconds remaining in a decisive Game 5 of a first-round series. Jordan received the inbounds and dribbled left toward the free throw line. He raised up but Craig Ehlo was right in his face. Jordan seemed to defy gravity, hung in the air just long enough to avoid Ehlo and sank the silky smooth jumper. His leap in the air and fist pump after hitting the series-winner is nearly as memorable as the shot itself.
