This past Sunday, Helio Castronoves won his third Indianapolis 500. At 5’8" and about 150 lbs, Castronoves is just about the same size as his reward: The Borg-Warner trophy. The Borg-Warner trophy was created in 1936, and has the faces of every winner of the Indy 500 since the beginning of the race in 1911.

Though Castronoves doesn’t get to bring the trophy home, his face will be added (for the third time) to the checkerboard pattern of winners past. He will receive an 18-inch replica of the prize prior to next year’s Indy 500, though. With the tradition of adding the faces of the winner, the trophy will continue to grow, but an expansion in 2004 has created enough room to hold all winners up until 2034.
