The Commissioner’s Trophy made its debut in 1967 (oddly, the same year the Lombardi Trophy was introduced), with the St. Louis Cardinals taking home the iconic prize from the Fall Classic.  There are 30 gold-plated pennants on the trophy, one for each of the MLB teams, and they surround a large silver baseball that symbolizes the world.

Though it just recently celebrated its 40th birthday, making it relatively young by iconic award standards, the Commissioner’s Trophy, presented to the World Series winner, has quickly established itself as one of the symbols to represent baseball, the sport that is still America’s favorite pastime.
