Other golf trophies are older, but the tradition and unique nature of the award for the Master’s champion makes it the most famous symbol in all of golf. 

The green sport coat is the official attire of Augusta National Golf Club members and since 1949 it has been awarded to the winner of the Masters.  Each year, the previous champion puts the jacket on the current winner, and the reigning champion becomes the only person allowed to take the jacket off club grounds for the next year.

It has become so famous that when we see someone wearing any green blazer we automatically assume they are a scratch golfer.
