Everyone wants to do it. Vince Young has done it with the BCS Championship trophy, Tim Tebow has done it with a baby, and the President has done it with … well, he did it with the trophy itself. They’ve all struck the Heisman pose. It’s the most well-known stance in sports (Air Jordan is a close second).
The Heisman Trophy is given to the most outstanding college football player every year. It was sculpted by Frank Eliscu, who has said it was “not my best work,” but this sculpture is one of the most famous in sports history. The bronze statue is less than two feet tall and weighs 25 pounds. But for such a small statue it can fetch a significant price. Minnesota halfback Bruce Smith’s 1941 Heisman Trophy sold for a record $395,240 in 2005.
