Starting in 1877, Wimbledon is one of the oldest sporting events in existence, and its Gentlemen's Singles trophy is nearly as historic.

Beginning in 1887, the men’s winner received a silver gilt cup engraved with the words, “The All England Lawn Tennis Club Single Handed Champion of the World." And in what might be the most bizarre and outdated symbol amongst these iconic trophies, a pineapple sits atop the cup. The symbol of the pineapple harkens back to 17th century England where it was one of the most sought-after commodities. Now it’s the silver pineapple atop the Wimbledon trophy that is one of the most sought-after trophies in the world.
