9. Alex Rodriguez
While Alex Rodriguez may be one of the greatest baseball players to ever play the game, he is also one of the least liked people in sports. The hate first started to pour in when in 2001 he signed the biggest contract in baseball history with the Texas Rangers. And fans' distaste for him only grew from there.
After being traded to the Yankees in 2004, the number of A-Rod haters instantly grew simply because he had joined the "Evil Empire." It wasn’t long before fans in New York also started to bash the slugger because he repeatedly failed to deliver in the clutch, especially in the playoffs.
Off the field, Rodriguez's penchant for consorting with celebrities didn't earn him any points with sports fans. Then the accusation of steroids use surfaced, an issue A-Rod handled badly with a clumsy admission while he pleaded ignorance.
While many now view Rodriguez as a liar and a cheat, he has at least shed the choke artist stigma somewhat by helping the Yankees win the 2009 World Series. However, it remains to be seen whether he can overcome the mass hatred that has overshadowed his achievements, which should rank him among the best ever.
