The Bobcats made noise early this season by acquiring Stephen Jackson from the Golden State Warriors just seven games into the season. Jackson has been the leading scorer for the Bobcats and has them in position to make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. Larry Brown is certainly working his magic in Charlotte as the Bobcats allow the fewest points per game in the NBA. As long as they stay healthy and Stephen Jackson stays happy, the Bobcats should finally reach the playoffs.
Ready to Breakout vs. Reality: Boris Diaw has not matched his numbers from his time in Charlotte last year. His rebounding, field goal percentage, and points are all down. No one is breaking out for the Bobcats, it’s all a combination of the addition of Jackson, as well as the surprising durability of Gerald Wallace.
Over the Hill vs. Reality: Tyson Chandler has predictably missed a good chunk of games with injury problems yet again this year. When he has played, it’s been less effectively than during his time in New Orleans. Chandler’s field goal percentage, points, and even rebounds are all down considerably and he is seeing fewer minutes than he did with the Hornets as well.
Worst Moment: On December 4, the Bobcats became the first team to lose to the Nets this season, breaking their record setting 18-game losing streak to open the season.
Best Moment: Trading for Stephen Jackson in mid-November finally gave the Bobcats a legitimate scoring threat. Jackson has been the leader of the Charlotte offense since arriving.
Best Case Scenario: The Bobcats hold steady and end up with the fifth seed in the playoffs. But really, just making the postseason would be a win for Charlotte.
Worst Case Scenario: Gerald Wallace gets injured or Stephen Jackson gets disgruntled and the Bobcats fade down the stretch, missing the playoffs for yet another year.
