1992: Duke's Christian Laettner vs. Kentucky
It’s called by some the greatest college basketball game ever played. The names involved are legendary, and entire book was written about this one game that wasn’t even in the Final Four, let alone for the national championship. As for the shot, everyone knows it; most can see it in their heads without watching the video below. In 2007 it was named the most memorable basketball shot of all-time by The Best Damn Sports Show Period.
Down 103-102 in overtime against Kentucky with 2.1 seconds, Duke had to go the entire length of the court. Having not missed a shot all game, Christian Laettner was going to get the ball - after all, he had done this before, hitting a buzzer beater to propel Duke over UConn in the same regional final in 1990. But somehow Grant Hill, unmolested at the baseline, still managed to heave a three-quarter-court pass to Laettner at the foul line. He took one dribble and put up a turnaround fade-away jumper. It went in for a thrilling 104-103 win and Duke went on to repeat as national champions.
