Top 10 Draft Day Trades
The NFL Draft lends itself to trades. Draft picks are highly prized assets that can help a team build for the future. A franchise can be shaped by the draft, both through their original picks, and the picks and players they acquire through trades. Many big trades take place leading up to the draft, but there is usually even more action on draft day.
With no salary cap this season, many experts are expecting more trades than ever. And with the draft now taking place over three days, it leaves even more time for teams to work out deals. As we get closer to the draft more rumors will come out about big names being shopped. Who will be dealt? Which teams will trade picks? Names like Albert Hayneworth, Ronnie Brown and Marshawn Lynch are just a few marquee players floating out there as possible trade targets. Oh yeah - and Ben Roethlisberger.
Another question that is perhaps best saved for years down the road, who will be the winner and losers of whatever trades might happen Thursday through Saturday? It’s nearly impossible to tell on draft day which teams had an edge, but once a couple of years have gone by it’s fairly easy to see who got the better of the deal. Of course, not all trades have to have both a winner and a loser, in some cases draft day trades work out for both teams. These are the Ten Biggest Draft Day Deals (inlcuding one trade that occured shortly before the draft).
