The Super Bowl hype machine is already running on overdrive, even before we reach Tuesday's Media Day that's supposed to kick off a weeklong information overload. With the Patriots and Giants facing off in a rematch in Super Bowl XLVI, we have the added frenzy of the New York and Boston media for whom enough is never just enough.
Where do we begin? How many angles can you take on Tom Brady? A former sixth-round pick who may just become the winningest quarterback in Super Bowl history? Check. Is he better than Peyton Manning? Check. What about his megastar model wife? We've got that, too. And we haven't even mentioned Bill Belichick, the curmudgeon Patriots coach who has built an enduring dynasty his own way, with the only constant being, well, Brady.
And that's only on the New England side of it. The Giants actually won the first time they faced off in the Super Bowl, shocking the 18-0 Patriots in Super Bowl XLII five years ago. They have their own superstar quarterback who's also drawing endless comparisons to Peyton Manning, his own brother. They also have their own crusty old man of a coach, who is always on the verge of getting fired but somehow always gets the better of his critics.
We're just scratching the surface here. Don't care about the Super Bowl? You'd better lock all your desktop and hand-held devices in a safe deposit box and move to Djibouti for a week. Otherwise, there's just no way of getting around our Top 10 Overplayed Super Bowl Storylines:
