After all the drama since the start of the NBA season, the Denver Nuggets finally traded Carmelo Anthony. When his move to the New York Knicks becomes official on Tuesday, it will mark yet another NBA player switching teams in the prime of his career.

If you don't remember who's the last guy that did, we'll jog your memory: Does "The Decision" mean anything to you?

While it may seem commonplace these days for players to jump ship in the middle of their best years, this wasn't always the case. Before the dawn of free agency, a Hall of Fame-caliber player would only land on another team when he was traded, typically for money by a cash-strapped owner. Even after player movement was liberalized by all four major North American sports leagues, most top-notch players were still retained by their original teams when they had a chance to bolt.

With Albert Pujols possibly following Anthony's lead if the St. Louis Cardinals can't sign him to a new deal, we decided to take a look at players who changed uniforms in the middle of their peak years. We only considered players who are either in the Hall of Fame or are stone-cold lock for it in their respective sports. We also did not include players who changed leagues more or less out of necessity, so you won't find Steve Young, Jim Kelly, Warren Moon, Julius Erving or Ichiro Suzuki on this list. What you will find are some of the most famous sporting icons in our Top 10 Players to Switch Teams in Their Prime.
