Was there any question about who would be number one on this list?
His career was the most successful of anyone that earned this dubious distinction; his celebrity status the largest; and his crimes among the most heinous.
O.J. Simpson was a Heisman Trophy winner, NFL Hall of Famer, the only running back to run for 2,000 yards in a 14 game season, Monday Night Football and NFL on NBC commentator and an actor, including roles in The Naked Gun series. Then on June 12, 1994, what O.J. was famous for would change forever.
The alleged double-murder of his estranged wife, Nicole Brown, and acquaintance Rod Goldman became the trial of the century, and captivated the nation for nearly a year. O.J. was the top subject at dinner tables and water coolers, and in talk shows all over the country. O.J. was eventually acquitted, despite seemingly overwhelming evidence against him, but later was found guilty in civil court for the wrongful death of Ron Goldman.
Since that time, O.J. would surface from time to time in a police report, all while “looking for the real killers.” But now O.J. is finally in jail, sentenced to a total of 33 years last December for charges from an incident in which he stole sports memorabilia at gun point in Las Vegas.
