Jack Dempsey was one of the best boxers of his generation, holding the world heavyweight title from 1919 to 1926. Near the end of his career, during a comeback attempt, Dempsey squared-off against future heavyweight champion Jack Sharkey at Yankee Stadium. Dempsey won the fight, but it was not without controversy.
Throughout the fight, Dempsey had been hitting Sharkey below the belt. When Sharkey finally turned to complain to the referee, and thus leaving himself wide-open, Dempsey landed a left hook on the chin of Sharkey, knocking him out. The ref counted-out Sharkey and declared Dempsey the winner.
