The first ever World Series saw the Boston Americans down the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5 games to 3, in 1903.  The Americans were unable to defend their title the following year, however, because the owner of the New York Giants, John Brush, said the relatively new American League was too inferior to play for a championship game.  As a result, an official World Series set of guidelines was established in 1905, in which the American and National leagues would "meet annually in a series of games for the Professional Base Ball Championship of the World."

Since that time, we’ve been lucky enough to see a perfect game, an unassisted triple play, 26 New York Yankees’ titles, Bill Mazeroski, a gimpy Kirk Gibson, Carlton Fisk waving it fair, Kirby Puckett in the 10th, Joe Carter leaping with literally unrestrained joy, Jack Morris’ 10 innings and even a called shot from Babe Ruth.

But, unfortunately, not every moment provided storybook endings. From strikes to scandals to plain old mistakes, there are moments that many would like to be able to forget, but instead live on in infamy.
