Chicago 'Black Sox' Scandal, 1919 World Series
In 1919, in an effort to get back at team owner Charles Comiskey, and to earn a large pay day, eight Chicago White Sox players intentionally threw the World Series, doing their part to ensure the Cincinnati Reds won, 5-3. The incident, forever known as The Black Sox Scandal, resulted in the lifetime banishment of eight Chicago players, including first baseman Arnold "Chick" Gandil, the creator of the fix, and “Shoeless” Joe Jackson, whose involvement is still questioned to this day.
