AMANDA BEARD
OLYMPICS HISTORY: Amanda Beard has seven medals spanning from 1996-2004. She won gold twice, once in the 4x100 medley in 1996 and then in the 200m breastroke in 2004.
Seven medals is quite an accomplishment but Beard is now more well-known for her modeling than her swimming accolades. She has appeared in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition, FHM, and Playboy. She has capitalized on her willingness to show skin and it landed her an endorsement deal with GoDaddy.com:
Statement released by GoDaddy:
“She is now considered a superstar in the world of swimming and beyond. Amanda is one of the most sought after models of the Olympic movement. In fact, Amanda was the most downloaded female athlete on the Internet for 3 straight months in 2004, surpassing Anna Kournikova, and Askmen.com named her Female Model of the Week in December, 2004.”
The ad was a bit controversial and ABC actually wouldn't air the commercial before 9pm. She has clearly become a sex symbol and has taken advantage of it. But how can they compare Beard to Spitz? Beard has just two gold's whereas Spitz has nine and went 7-for-7 in 1972.
