Carl Pavano - Signed by New York Yankees in 2004, four years, $39.95 million

It's not a good sign when your Wikipedia page begins with the line, "Pavano is known for being injury-prone ... and having his work ethic questioned by teammates."  Since joining the Yankees, Pavano has missed time because of a shoulder injury (2005), bruised buttocks and broken ribs (2006), elbow strain and eventual Tommy John surgery (2007) and a suspicious hip injury (2008).  In all, Pavano, nicknamed "American Idle," made just 26 starts in his four years in the Bronx (including missing the entire 2006 campaign), while compiling a 9-8 record with ERAs of 4.77, 4.76 and 5.77.  This all came after a two-year stretch with Florida, in which he won 30 games and was named an All Star in 2004.  In all, Pavano "earned" $4.44 million for each win he recorded with the Yankees.
