Top Trios of All-Time
The Miami Heat, with the newly minted trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, will christen the 2010-11 NBA season tonight in Boston. Already, the hype has gone beyond nauseating, beginning with James' 'The Debacle' ... er, 'The Decision' on ESPN, when he announced his intentions to take his "talents to South Beach."
But before the Heat even win a game, let alone a championship, can we just chill on calling the James-Wade-Bosh trio the greatest ever? Yes, the triumvirate is supremely talented. Sure, they'll be the odds-on favorite to win the NBA's Eastern Conference. Someday, the three of them might join forces in Springfield in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
It'll be at least a decade before such proclamations may be reasonably made. Besides, there's pretty stiff competition for being called the best trio ever. In the NBA alone, the '80s Lakers and Celtics each fashioned a pretty good group that will hardly back down to the South Beach Trio. And just to give you an idea what kind of company we're talking about, the late '60s Wilt Chamberlain-Jerry West-Elgin Baylor threesome didn't even make our Top 10 Best Trios of All Time list.
