In 1969, the Chicago Cubs had an 8-game lead over the New York Mets in the NL East. Slowly but surely though, the Cubs began to fall apart. By September 9th, their lead had dwindled to just ½ a game, following a 7-1 loss to the Mets -- the same night that a black cat took a stroll in front of the Chicago dugout. The bad-luck omen was good luck for the Mets: 'The Amazin’s' went on to win the division; the Cubs finished second, 8 games out of first place.
