A Letter From the Editor
Dear reader,

InsideHook has never identified as a platform with a political agenda.

Our goal is to build a community where people can learn how to be smarter, funnier, more interesting versions of themselves, and trying to advance any kind of deliberate political rhetoric has always seemed to undermine that goal. (Of course, everything is to some degree political, and we encourage our writers to embrace that, provided they do so with nuance and intellectual rigor.)

But this week feels different. It feels irresponsible — callous, even — to be writing to you about where to find a great discount on desert boots or how to mix a better drink while nearly every major metropolitan area in the U.S. is in the midst of a crisis.

To be clear, there are no winners here. Hundreds of businesses are in shambles and local law enforcement are being thrown headlong into situations very few of them seem equipped to deal with. But the greatest injustice of all is the one upon which everything else is predicated: the persistent and malicious mistreatment of Black Americans by the very forces that have sworn to protect them.

I’m not reaching out to pontificate to you about why this situation exists and how to fix it. Instead, I’d like to implore you to take some time this week to shut up and listen — not to us, but to the people around the country who are mourning the loss of an innocent man and exercising a fundamental American right in the hopes that they won’t have to do so again six months from now.

Below, we’ve shared some resources to help you get involved in a number of ways, whether that’s donating your money to worthwhile causes, or simply taking some time to become more informed about the systems and mechanisms that conspire to perpetuate racism in this country.

We commend those who stand in defiance of oppression, and will continue to use this platform to support their efforts.

As always, we thank you for your continued readership.
