Armando Galarraga had retired 26 straight batters and was one out away from a perfect game. It looked like he had completed it when Jason Donald hit a ground ball to the first baseman who flipped to Galarraga who beat Donald to the bag. But umpire Jim Joyce called him safe and ruined his chances at a perfect game. Afterwards Joyce admitted his error: "I just cost the kid a perfect game. I thought he beat the throw. I was convinced he beat the throw, until I saw the replay."
