The Capitol One Bowl was not competitive. Alabama scored the first 49 points of the game, holding Michigan State scoreless until 5:45 remained in the fourth quarter. The Crimson Tide rushed for 275 yards and six touchdowns and held the Spartans to -48 yards on the ground as the SEC once again punished the Big Ten, this time by the score of 49-7.
