The Islanders jumped out to a 6-0 lead over the Penguins and would go on to win 9-3; however, the true story was the penalties. The two teams combined for 65 penalties that totaled 346 penalty minutes. Ten players were ejected and 15 fighting majors and 20 misconducts were handed out.
